Wronged

Sonnetesque...

My clothes are torn, my shoes are worn with grief.
My purse is bare, there's nothing there: it's gone.
The times I've had to me defy belief -
The trials, the pain, the tears when life went wrong.
I tried my best to ease the misery
But made mistakes and erred and strayed and lost.
Existence has become a strain for me.
I feel so damned. The blame, the shame: my lot.
They judged, they punished but never knew the truth
Assumed I was guilty, and ignored my words: the facts.
Persecuted and tortured, made me suffer and marred my youth.
'Til I succumbed to despair and yielded like wax.
This life, for me now is sore and flawed; a burden.
I'm a spiritless shell. It's time for the final curtain.
