New Beginnings

The lights flashed,
My ears rang.
The world exploded.
My life began.

My eyes flickered for a moment
Then they lingered on a face.
A wry smile grew slowly as I
Fuzzily looked at that space

My insides churned tumultuously.
My mouth craved water
But I knew I could not drink
Merely just lie still and think

Of it and all the other pleasures
My senses would soon know
Once I had left this interim place
So clinical and cold.

Thus I waited to be taken
To a haven, warm and safe,
Where my body would thrive again
And I could show my face.
